There is a major shift happening online and it is probably as major as the shift from offline to online. The pioneers that understood the initial Online Opportunity were able to seriously capitalize by Securing Hot Domain Names and Setting up their Website Early to dominate the Search Engines for their services.  There is a similar opportunity for those that look forward and get in early on the up and coming online trends.

The future of Online Marketing (Web 3.0) is:

  • Mobile Marketing – Think SMS Text Messaging, Voice Broadcast & Mobil Ads
  • Micro Blogging – Think Twitter & Other Short Post Sites
  • Virtual Reality Words – Think SecondLife (I’m a little sceptical of this one)
  • Apps – Think Pandora, Mint.com, Shazam
  • Streaming Video –Think  U-stream

There is a great book on the market that goes deep into each of the trends and how to capitalize on them. It’s Marketing in the Moment: The Practical Guide to Using Web 3.0 Marketing to Reach Your Customers First by Michael Tasner. I highly recommend it.

Each month there are over 14 Billion searches across the major search engines (Google, Yahoo & Bing). The latest statistics indicate that over 35% of those searches are “local” in nature. The questions that most plumbing contractors want the answers to are:

  • How many of those searches were specific to “Plumbing Services” in my service area here in Miami?
  • How do I get my company website to show up in those searches and direct those searchers to my website?

This document contains data pulled from the Major Search Engines over a 12 month period and helps to answer both of these questions.

How many searches are there for “Plumbing Related Services” in the Miami Area on a monthly basis?

Based on the historic data available from Google, Yahoo & Bing there are over 10+ million searches related to “plumbing services” on a monthly basis. We are able to isolate the number of those searches that originated within the Miami Area based on IP Address. The data shows that there are approximatly 255,425 searches related “Plumbing Services” in the Miami Area each month.

Online Marketing Checklist for Local Business

Online Marketing, the practice of promoting your products and services via the Internet is a comprehensive topic that covers Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media, Online Video and many other avenues for exposure. With all of the information available about Internet Marketing it can be very difficult figure out where to start and what things you can do that will actually have an impact on your online marketing efforts as it relates to your local business. To help you get started I have put together a checklist of what I feel are the most imperative things you can do that will have the quickest and most tangible impact on your visibility online for your local business.

  • Claim your local listings on the major sites (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yelp, 4Squared, Best of the Web, City Search, Angie’s List).
  • Set up a fan page on Facebook and a Twitter Account.
  • Set up a blog on your site (www.your site.com/blog) and create a new post for each of your most frequently asked questions. ***Tip – push those posts out via your Facebook & Twitter account.
  • Update the “title tag” on each of your website pages & make each title unique. ****Tip – use localized / keyword rich titles (E.G. “Miami Body Shop – Jorge’s Body Shop”, “Fort Lauderdale Roofer – Academy Roofing”). Click here to learn more about my SEO Strategies for Local Business.
  • Make sure that your full company name and address are listed at the bottom of each page of your site along with a “text link” navigation structure.
  • Create a simple video about your services & upload it to YouTube. *** Tip – Title the YouTube Video with those same localized / keyword rich keywords.
  • Get Links! Be sure that you have a link to your site from any and all associations that you belong to (E.G. Trade Association, Chamber of Commerce, Networking Groups, etc).
  • Set up a pay-per-click account on the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing).
